Porn: Let’s Talk About it – World Café

This year for sexual assault awareness month (SAAM), the Dalhousie Women’s Centre, and the Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group are getting together to talk about pornography!

The theme for SAAM is the importance of Healthy Sexuality and how it can combat sexual violence in our communities and our individual lives.

Pornography is a growing focus of attention in many circles, particularly as it relates to hyper-sexualization, masculinity, sexual violence and misogyny. It can also be a site of conflict and shame for many people, both individually and within relationships.

How can pornography be a tool that can strengthen and nourish positive sexuality and sexual experiences, yet also sometimes promote and link violence with sex? Is all porn bad? How does classifying porn as either bad or good promote shame and silence? And how can talking about porn begin to unravel its complex influence on our culture and everyday lives?

Please join us for a discussion and snacks! Let’s Talk About It!

Hosted by the Dalhousie Women’s Centre, NSPIRG and other enthusiastic individuals!
